Feel the burn...

I have decided that everyone needs to experience at least one embarrassing, slightly humiliating moment a month. These moments remind us that we are human, are not by any means perfect, and should swallow our pride.

Ripping one's swimsuit in front of three good guy friends counts as at least five of such moments...

I think I am getting red just remembering...

There was a time in my life where I would have dwelt on such an incident over and over and over again, hitting my head against a proverbial wall and thinking, "Idiot! I can't believe you just did that!" I would also attempt to avoid the three friends as much as remotely possible without actually losing the friendship all together.

Not so in this case. I think I was the first one to laugh. That is a complete 180 from even 3 years ago.

Life happens. Swimsuits rip. I have come to the conclusion over the past few months that there are so many bigger issues in the world right now that deserve my attention and prayers than me making a fool of myself in front of people--AIDS, hunger, war, spiritually dead countries, forgotten children, orphans, etc. You get the idea. Who really cares about my embarrassment in the grand scheme of things?

This made me wonder if Jesus ever had embarrassing moments while on earth. I bet the disciples did. Something to ponder.

I've also realized that being a youth major in my undergrad also helped me ignore those embarrassing, humiliating moments. They happen a lot in youth ministry...or maybe just to me...

Anyway, those are my thoughts for the week. And that was my adventurous 4th of July. Now I need to go shopping...I've got a swimsuit to replace!

Pictures would have made it funnier...it was a pretty great "swan dive" I took off the boat that caused the incident. :)

Markson--I'm glad you're enjoying the church, and I will definitely be praying for you guys!

Justin--well, world traveler, what were you up to over in Europe? Hope it was amazing. As far as my embarassing moments, I figure if you can't laugh at yourself, you have no right to laugh at anyone else :) Or something like that. Later!
