Music Moves Me

This past weekend I spent the Labor Day holiday in the state of South Dakota. Now, normally, I do not choose to spend my time off in that state, but Sioux Falls happens to be the home of the only FREE Christian Music Festival in the country--LifeLight Festival. Three days of free concerts. Truly, it can't get much better (okay, it could because some of my favorite bands weren't there, but besides that...)!

Sometimes I think that as I get older, my tastes will change, especially in music. I don't know why I think that; it's not like I'm old or anything. I just think that eventually I will enjoy listening to certain artists more than the artists of my youth. So, I chose to stay for the Casting Crowns concert instead of heading over to John Reuben, which is what I would usually do. Now, I have nothing against Casting Crowns; they have some great songs, a great ministry, and a great heart for the youth of this generation. However, after 3 songs, I was bored. I probably should have gotten up and gone to the second stage where Reuben was...alack, I did not. I blame having to tackle the mud to get over to the second stage, which did not appeal to me, especially in the dark.

So there I sat, thinking that I should really be enjoying this band, but I didn't, and everytime there was a break between songs, I could hear John Reuben's rap drifting over from the other stage, so I would dance along to that.

The moral of the story is: my tastes haven't changed at all! These were my favorite concerts of the weekend: Jeremy Camp, Sanctus Real, worship with Casting Pearls, Foolish Things, Leeland, Kutless, and Newsboys. I am a rock/rap girl at heart, and always will be.

Another thing I learned over the weekend: I love the music world, and need to begin taking serious steps to realize my dreams. Lots of thoughts on that will come later. Let's just say Ariel's song "Part of that World" would fit nicely right about now...except the whole fin/legs thing...

i think my tastes have changed quite a bit. Well, actually, maybe they haven't changed, but rather they have broadened. I still like some stuff I liked in High school, but I now enjoy a much wider selection and the music that moves me now is diffefent than it was in the past. I really hope that I keep listening to the stuff I always have, but at the same time, i hope I am continually exploring new music.

I think I've become pickier with some aspects of music, but the style that I enjoy remains pretty much the same. Lyrics are important to me, and quality of sound (there was this one band at LifeLight who's lead singer was extremely nasal...couldn't handle it) and if they sound like everyone else under the sun (which happens a lot in the Christian realm).

I don't think I have become pickier in the sense that I won't listen to certain music, but I for Sure have become much more critical of music that is passed off to us by the record companies and radio stations as Art. I think my taste has broadened and I have become less picky in some senses, but way more critical as well, so It kind of evens out. So what are you listening to these days? I Love hearing about what others listen to.

What am I listening to...

downhere, Paul Wright, Sanctus Real
The Fray, Switchfoot, Casting Pearls, The Myriad (these are the most consistently listened to).

I also mix a bunch of artists up on my computer--there are some musicians that I love one of their songs and hate the rest of their CD (Kelly Clarkson, for example).
