Blog Project: Day 1

I have decided to start a blog project. I have been blogging much too infrequently, thought it's not because I don't have anything to say. I blame laziness, really. So I decided that having a project, nay, a science experiment might just help me get back on the blog train.

No, I will not be cooking through some famous chef's famous cookbook and becoming famous myself.

I have decided to go without makeup...for a month.

This all started over the weekend, when my dear, sensitive husband pulled back from a hug, eyed my face and said, "Whoa, baby, your forehead is breaking out!" I wasn't offended; I had, in fact, been noticing for some time that my face seemed to have decided to take another trip through adolescence and didn't ask my permission.

A couple of days later, as we were getting ready for work, I took a look in the bathroom mirror and said "Hello, forehead, we have to do something about you."

"What was that?" called Nathan.

"Oh, nothing. Just putting on my makeup. Trying to make my forehead look normal."

"You know, I have a theory about makeup," my conspiracy theorist said.

The theory is (in a nut shell) that the makeup industry knows that the makeup they market to women will make their faces breakout. And when women breakout, what do they do? Go get more makeup to cover the blemishes. Which then just compounds the problem. I would like to add that if this theory is in fact true, I think that the facial cleanser industry is in cahoots with the makeup industry, and they sit around with clear complexions laughing at the female gender.

"Hmm...maybe I should try going a month without makeup and see if that clears it up."

My sweet husband's response: "I would support that. Honestly, I can't tell the difference between when you are wearing makeup and when you aren't."

So that settled it. And so the project was born.

Over the next month, I will be chronicling my days without makeup in pictures and words. The only makeup products I am allowing myself to continue to use are Eyebrow Gel and Mascara. I just, well, I feel pretty when I have mascara on, okay?

Side story: When I worked for YouthWorks! in Michigan, a group of us were sitting around after dinner and started the "What 3 Things Would You Have to Have on a Desert Island" conversation. We weren't allowed to say "The Bible" or "A Guitar" - those were freebies, since everyone would say them. One of my items? Mascara. Yeah, laugh, I'm okay with it.

Anyway, back to the project. I did some research thanks to Real Simple magazine, and based on their skincare findings, I will be using two products during this month long experiment:

Biore Ice Cleanser
Clean and Clear Morning Moisturizer

I already ran into a bit of a snag when Nathan and I tried to go buy these two products last night; it seems the entire female population in La Mesa, CA uses the moisturizer I was looking for, as both Target and WalMart (sorry dad) were completely sold out. Weird.

So, welcome to my experiment. The pictures will not be the most attractive things you'll see, but it's all in the name of science, so bear with me.

Final note to day one: No pics today, but will make sure my photographer documents my face tonight!
